Our Treatments - Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening is a very popular treatment. Most food and drink that we consume contain staining elements that discolour our teeth. This discolouration can be very difficult to remove with ordinary whitening toothpaste. With the help of professional whitening your teeth can be returned back to the lighter colour they should be. At Surrey Dental Spa we use the renowned In House Zoom Instant Whitening system that is guaranteed to lighten your smile by a number of shades. Although tooth whitening is not a predictable science, we use the best system to ensure the best possible results.

Options

An alternative to the In House Zoom Power Whitening is our Whitening Home Kit. Impressions are taken of your mouth and trays are made on site especially for you with excellent suction fitting. You apply the whitening gel and then wear the trays for up to an hour each day, as opposed to the traditional over night treatment time. The results are excellent although not as instantaneous as the In House System.

Construction

The treatment uses an oxygen releasing whitening gel placed against the surface of your teeth. As oxygen enters the enamel and dentine of your teeth, it whitens the coloured substances. Only the tooth is made lighter while the structure of your tooth remains unchanged. Tooth whitening will only change the colour of your natural teeth. It will not lighten the porcelain of veneers and crowns.

Appointment

The appointment time allocated for the In House treatment is usually one and a half hours. Your dentist will firstly take impressions of your mouth so trays can be made whilst you have your Zoom treatment. The trays are made especially for you that will allow you to top up your treatment in the comfort of your own home. These can be used as and when desired with the whitening gel that will be given to you. Whilst in the surgery your dentist will prepare your teeth and place the whitening gel on them and then place you under a special light for 45 - 60 minutes. During this time we will make you extremely comfortable and you can even watch a movie of your choice using our special DVD glasses. Once the treatment is complete you will notice an immediate difference to the shade of your teeth.

After care

For maximum results in keeping your teeth white, along with topping them up regularly at home you must try to eliminate from your diet what made them discoloured in the first place. Try to avoid tea, coffee, red wine and artificially coloured foods. This does not mean you can never enjoy these foods and drinks. However, you would be advised to limit the frequency of having them. Continue to look after your teeth, as you would have done prior to having them whitened. Regular hygienist appointments would benefit you in maintaining good oral hygiene and reducing staining.
